The Smart ForTwo and Smart ForFour kick off 2016 with new special edition models – the Edition white and Edition Black – as Smart play the ‘value’ card.
Another day, another set of ‘special Edition’ cars from a car maker to tempt buyers to ignore the Christmas credit card bills and splash some cash on a new car.
This time it’s Smart with a quartet of new ‘special’ offerings, with the Edition White and Edition Black for both the ForTwo and ForFour models.
Based on the prime trim line – which includes leather heated seats as standard – the new ‘Editions’ get the Urban Style Pack and Premium Pack as standard which means stuff like sports steering wheel, perforated leather, stainless steel sports pedals, 16″ alloys, chrome tail pipes, wheel arch extensions for added butch, Comfort Package, rear parking assist and Smart Media with Sat Nav. Which isn’t a bad spec.
Smart/Mercedes are keen you know that the ForTwo special editions come with £1,500 worth of extras for just an extra £895, and the ForTwo with £1,600 worth of goodies for an extra £840.
It won’t shock you to learn that the Edition Lack models get black bodywork and black grill (although you can opt for a white one), and the Edition White models get white paintwork and white grill.
Engine choices are the usual 71bhp or 90bhp versions with either manual or auto gearbox, with the ForTwo editions costing from £12,715 for the 71bhp manual up to £14,305 for the 90bhp auto. ForFour editions cost from £13,210 to £14,800.
It looks like the Smart Black and White Editions are now on sale, with first customer cars due next month.
