All the big 4×4s are struggling as people percieve them as ‘Devil Cars’ after the recent explosion in fuel prices around the world. And sadly, that sentiment seems to have stuck around, even though oil is now at a price last seen years ago. There’s nought so fickle as folk.

So big SUV makers have to keep trying harder, which is no bad thing. The latest to do so is VW, which is offering a new range of more efficient engines and a special edition on its range-topping 4×4, the Touareg.

The modifications across the range include revising the power steering system pumps, altering the gear ratios and other mods which, together with engine mods, gives an overall 9% reduction in fuel consumption.

The other Touareg news is a limited edition, based on the ‘North Sails’ concept car. This is the VW version of the Audi concept for the Q7 V12 - The Coastline - which featured plush upholstery, lots of teak and looked like it came from an Ikea showroom. Well, the North Sails concept is pretty watered down, but it’s being pushed out at somewhere north of €55k Euros in a VW showroom near you soon.

Better get there quick to miss the queues, eh?!

Apparently, this ad got banned from TV in the UK. I suppose you can see why, but if it doesn’t make you at least smile, if not laugh out loud, then you must have had a sense of humour by-pass!

It always seems strange what gets a ban and what doesn’t. We actually think this is hilarious, but then we do have a strange sense of humour round here.

What do you think? Are you offended, or would you rather car makers used a bit of humour and style to sell their cars?
