MINI has done a remake of the Italian Job – dubbed the ‘Britalian Job – to celebrate the London 2012 Olympics.
The result is something MINI are calling the ‘Britalian Job’, an homage to the classic 1960s Italian Job with the original Mini and starring Michael Caine and Noel Coward (and Benny Hill), although in truth it’s more like an homage to the later version with Charlize Theron.
MINI has managed to re imagine the Italian Job with cues from the original too, with the three MINIs used – in Red White & Blue – emerging from the same underground car park Michael Caine picked up hit Aston Martin DB4 after his ‘holiday’ in the original, before heading off down the Mall and via Leadenhall Market in the City before ending up in the Olympic Park in Stratford (fortunately, we don’t get to see the crappy bits in between the City and Stratford).
En-route we get treated to Daley Thompson as the boss and cameo appearances from the likes of Jodie Kidd, James Cracknell, Jonathan Edwards, Matthew Pinsent and Steve Cram. It’s all directed by Top Gear’s Phil Churchward and is all a plug for MINI’s London 2012 Editions.
All good fun.
