The Grand Tour trio of ex-Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May play quiz games with James Corden and a Corvette.
The Grand Tour – the ‘it’s not Top Gear’ show from Amazon with Clarkson, Hammond and May – is gearing up for its November launch, and that’s going to mean the boys working hard to promote it.
Not that there’s any lack of interest in The Grand Tour, but the trio are having to get used to working for a company – Amazon Prime – which is essentially pay to view, so unless viewers sign-up to watch the audience could be poor.
Top Gear, certainly when the trio were on the show, boasted a worldwide audience of 350 million, but Amazon Prime is thought to have about a quarter of that number. So they’ll be hoping the promo and hype will get big numbers signing up to cover the huge cost of creating a new Top Gear.
This promo for The Grand Tour sees the trio doing a Brit piece with James Corden for his very successful Late Late Show, with Clarkson, Hammond and May taking turns to blat the new Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport round Willow Springs with Corden in the passenger seat.
It’s a timed effort to see who’s quickest, but the twist is Corden asking a series of questions as they blat round, with a second added to the time for each wrong answer.
Questions include “Do you miss Top Gear?” and “What is another way of saying penis?” by way of “What is James May’s favourite sexual position?”.
We have a sneaky feeling there might be a promo or two more before The Grand Tour airs on November 18. But we have to say, the wit and banter seems intact.
