The Hamster needs a garage!

Poor old Richard Hammond. First he gets nearly killed playing silly-buggers with a mad rocket car, and now the poor man has nowhere to keep his own cars.

Like Clarkson, Top Gear presenter Hammond lives in the sticks, in his case in rural Herefordshire close to the Welsh border, and about 50 miles from his co-presenter. But unlike Clarkson, who has plenty of room for his cars at his home in Chipping Norton (or at his home on the Isle of Man), poor Richard has nowhere to keep them.

Richard Hammond - I need a Garage!

Richard Hammond - I need a Garage!

So this week he has submitted a planning application to build a 5 bay garage at his home in Weston-under-Penyard. But first he’s got to knock down a stable. I wonder if Mrs H knows?

He might find it quite difficult. The property is surrounded by Grade I and Grade II listed buildings, and councils are notoriously touchy about these things. But Richard’s architect said the new garage block would be “covered and secure parking for the applicant’s vehicles within an enclosed secure wall”. So that’s alright then.

Good luck, Richard. I know from bitter experience how much of a pain planning permission can be with old buildings.
