Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are to recreate their Top Gear magic with a new motoring show for Amazon Prime to launch in 2016.
It’s been announced that Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May – and Top Gear producer Andy Wilman – have signed a deal with Amazon Prime for a new Motoring Show – which can’t be called Top Gear – to launch on the subscription channel in 2016.
There have been rumours and counter-rumours about what will happen to the Top Gear trio now they’ve left the Beeb, and it turns out subscription channel Amazon Prime have won the boys over – no doubt with lots of editorial freedom and big pay packets – with a new, so far unnamed, motoring show to launch in 2016.
Production on the new show will begin shortly, and we wait to see if Amazon are intent on using the new ‘Top Gear’ to grab as many of Top Gear’s 350 million global audience to their subscription service only, or whether they’ll also offer it to other broadcasters (after it’s aired on Amazon).
Jay Marine, VP of Amazon Prime, said:
Customers told us they wanted to see the team back on screen, and we are excited to make that happen.
Millions of Prime members are already enjoying our ground-breaking original shows. We can’t wait to see what Jeremy, Richard, James and the team will create in what is sure to be one of the most globally anticipated shows of 2016.
All of which means we can look forward to ‘Top Gear Wars’ in 2016, with the new Clarkson, Hammond and May show going up against the ‘new’ Top Gear with Chris Evans and, perhaps, Jenson Button and Jodie Kidd.
