Top Gear: Rapide, Panamera & Quattroporte four-seat supercars tonight

Top Gear Series 15 Episode 3

Rubens Barrichello and Rupert Grint on Top Gear tonight

Tonight’s Top Gear sees a four-door supercar shoot out, Rubens Barrichello and Rupert Grint on track and a Camaro / E63 comparison.

Another week flies by and we’re almost half way through the latest series (Series 15) of Top Gear. Episode 3 tonight at the normal 8pm on BBC2. Although there’s a fair chance the footballists amongst you will be sticking TG on Sky+ and watching the World Cup.

Tonight the boys are playing with the latest car fad – the four-door supercar. They’ve chosen to grab the Maserati Quattroporte, the Porsche Panamera Turbo and the Aston Martin Rapide for a road trip across southern England, a race round a (closed-off) business park and a bit of chauffeuring thrown in for good measure.

It seems pretty clear that the Panamera will win any part of the competition related to performance, the Rapide anything relating to style and the Quattroporte will win on price. But actually there is one contender they left out.

Hard to believe I’m saying this, but the new Jaguar XJ Supersport will whip the arse of the Quattroporte and Rapide on performance, come in at less than the Quattroporte on price (well, the Sport GT S anyway) and – in LWB guise – offer more room than any of them.

The Hamster goes out to compare the Chevrolet Camaro SS and Mercedes E63 AMG on the track and the star in a reasonably priced car (the new Kia cee’d) is Harry Potter ginger Rupert Grint.

And – as we reported the other day - Rubens Barrichello pops by to put in a lap in the old Liana.
