The Toyota Yaris range gets updated for 2019 with the arrival of the Yaris Y20 and Yaris GR Sport models extending the Yaris range in the UK.
Last year, the Toyota Yaris Y20 arrived as a special limited edition model to celebrate 20 years of the Yaris, complete with a gold paint job to mimic the original launch car in the UK.
At the time, Toyota said that although the gold special edition Y20 was a limited edition model (just 100 for the UK), the Y20 would become a core part of the Yaris range from 2019. And it is.
As part of a refresh for the Yaris for 2019, the Y20 joins the main Yaris range (Active, Icon, Icon Tech and Excel) together with another new model – the Yaris GR Sport.
The new mainstream version of the Yaris Y20 offer a bi-tone paint job – in gold, silver, black or white – privacy glass, 16″ alloys and a dark grey contrast for side sills and grille, with the same dark grey picked out in the cabin along with sports seats and a smattering of ‘Y20’ logos. Prices for the Y20 start at £17,465 for the 1.5 litre petrol.
The new Yaris GR Sport is inspired by the Yaris GRMN and gets a suspension tweak or three with Sachs Shocks, solid ant-roll bar, lowered suspension and 17″ alloys.
Cosmetic stuff includes a black bi-tone roof with rear spoiler, black exterior trim highlights, privacy glass, black interior detailing for the headlights and ‘GR’ badging. Inside there are GR branded sports seats, small three-spoke wheel and a bespoke TFT info display. The Yaris GR Sport is only available as the 1.5 litre hybrid costing £19,835.
The rest of the Yaris range gets a tweak too, with the Icon Tech and Excel getting improved spec, the Excel being available only as a hybrid, and the Active and Icon trims also getting up-specced.
