Victor Muller on Spyker’s plans for Saab

Victor Muller – CEO of Spyker – is still very bullish about the prospects of Spyker acquiring Saab from GM. So bullish, in fact, that he’s been speaking about the plans he has for the future of Saab under Spyker.

You won’t be astonished to learn that Victor wants to rebuild Saab around the 9-3, 2010 9-5 and the 9-4X. Like Koenigsegg before him, he doesn’t see Saab going down market and producing a 9-1, for example. But he would love to see Saab produce the Aero-X, which he describes as ‘One of the best designs in the last five years’. And as a low-volume Supercar maker, Spyker would certainly know how to make the Aero-X a reality.

The winding down of Saab dealerships would also stop, with Spyker retaining the existing dealerships instead of cutting numbers significantly as had been planned. Muller also made it clear that he sees Saab showrooms selling Spyker cars in the future, which is an interesting prospect. They are currently sold in a variety of ways, often through Bentley or Lamborghini dealers.

So at least Victor knows what he wants to do with Saab. And GM will see a chunk of the action going forward as the current cars are all based on GM platforms, and the forthcoming Saab 9-4X not only shares oily bits with the Cadillac SRX, but would be made by GM in Mexico.

All Victor needs now is the keys to the toy store. Will he get them? We should know soon enough.
