Volvo to give away S60 on Facebook

Volvo UK - win a Volvo S60 on the Volvo Greatest Drive Facebook Competition

Win a Volvo S60 on Facebook

Volvo UK are running a ‘Greatest Drives’ competition on Facebook with the winner receiving a new Volvo S60.

It seems that Volvo UK are very keen to get their Social Web stuff buzzing.

Last week we reported that Volvo were giving away tickets for the Goodwood Moving Motor Show, including the chance to drive a Volvo up the Goodwood hillclimb.

The entry criteria were simple enough – follow Volvo on Twitter and Tweet back the answer to a daily Volvo trivia question including the relevant hashtag. All very straightforward; a nice bit of Twitter profile boosting for not a lot of outlay by Volvo. And some links – from sites like Cars UK – who gave the competition a shout out.

But now Volvo has gone completely mad with its social love-in and are offering a free Volvo S60 in a competition being hosted on Volvo UK’s Facebook page.

There’s certainly logic to getting as many punters as possible to ‘Like’ your Facebook page as there are now something like 6million Facebook users in the UK – huge numbers. So it’s going to be very interesting to see how many new ‘Likes’ Volvo get out of this.

Facebook fans can submit their ‘Greatest Drives’ on Volvo’s Facebook Page up until 3rd July. Volvo will then shove up a shortlist of 10 for comments/likes/shares, and the top three will get a film made of their journey. Final voting will then take place with the winner being announced on 1st August.

It’s a brave and innovative move by Volvo, but eminently sensible too. The costs for them are not huge; the benefits could be.

If you go play – good luck.

At the current rate Facebook will be the only portal that many surfers use. Is it wise to pander to that? Why aren’t Volvo building their own community instead of building Facebook’s for them?

Walking blind in to another web domination…
