The Volvo XC90 has gained yet another award as it is voted Car Dealer Power Car of the Year by both Volvo and non-Volvo dealers across the UK.
Delivering an all-new Volvo XC90 to the world was always going to be a tough call, especially as the original XC90 – Volvo’s first SUV – was so well-conceived and so cleverly designed for its target market of comfortably off families that any replacement seemed destined to be a disappointment.
To add to the pressure of replacing perhaps the best car Volvo had ever made, the new XC90 was the vanguard of ‘New’ Volvo, the Volvo bought by the Chinese and desperate to re-establish itself as a premium brand in its own right after being subsumed by the Blue Oval for a decade, and needed to create a static point in Volvo'[s timeline that shouted ‘We’re back. And we’ve got it right’.
That Volvo achieved a car in the XC90 that is arguably even more appealing than the original, fitted it with little 2.0 litre engines which have no place in anything other than a family runaround, created an interior which looked sparse but is the match of anything on the road, and made it a pleasure to drive and to own, is simply remarkable.
The plaudits have been almost universal, with the XC90 winning over the public and the press alike – winning endless plaudits and awards in the process – and now it can add a Car of the Year Award from Car Dealers as the missing part of the motoring triumvirate of XC90 lovers.
The The Car Dealer Power Awards are the only awards where franchised and independent dealers get their say on manufacturers and suppliers,
Jon Wakefield, Volvo UK’s acting MD, said:
We are absolutely thrilled that the XC90 has been recognised by dealers in the UK as their Car of the Year in the Car Dealer Power survey – it’s a testament to the car to have won such a respected industry award.
To be voted for by both independent and franchise dealers alike demonstrates the huge popularity the XC90 has brought Volvo since its introduction to dealers in June last year.
