Volkswagen has revealed a rugged, rufty-tufty version of the Up! City car – the VW Cross Up! – ahead of a reveal at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

Volkswagen has gone the usual route of adding some black plastic cladding to the up – on the wheel arches and along the side – to create a more butch looking Up. They’ve also painted the bumpers and door mirrors in a light silver metallic and fitted a set of 16″ alloys that look like they’ve been nicked from one of VW’s other ‘Cross’ models.
Inside, VW has titivated the trim too with unique (to the Cross Up!) red or dark grey trim with the dashboard painted to match, leather on the wheel, handbrake and gear knob and a smattering of chrome trim.
Under the bonnet is the same 74bhp 3-cylinder engine the regular Up gets, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. What VW don’t say is whether they’ve raised the suspension on the Cross Up! or added any sort of additional traction control to make the Cross Up! genuinely useful in the slippery stuff.
No doubt we’ll learn more when the VW Cross Up! debuts at Geneva next month.

Will there be a Skoda branded version?
Cars UK says
It seems likely. Skoda are already playing with the Citigo with a Rally version so a rufty-tufty urban warrior seems likely. But whether we’ll get it in the UK (the Cross Up! or any Skoda version) remains to be seen.
