Avengers Jaguar XJ12-C fetches £62,000 at auction
The 1976 Jaguar XJ12-C – NWK 60P – the original John Steed Broadspeed Jaguar from the Avengers TV series has sold at auction for £62,000 – £50k over estimate.
Back in August we revealed that the iconic Broadspeed Jaguar XJ12 Coupe from the Avengers – as driven by John Steed – had emerged from its barn hibernation of 20 years and was going under the hammer as H&H Classics offer it to the highest bidder at the Duxford auction.
We thought the pre-auction estimate of £10-12k sounded a bit on the low side, and so it proved – the John Steed Jaguar ended up going for a substantial £62,000, proving once again that film and TV cars really do attract a big premium.
The buyer has grabbed an iconic car with Steed’s Jaguar, but the £62k already spent will pale in to insignificance if the new owner is going to put the Broadspeed Jaguar back in to better than new condition. But it looks like Jaguar Heritage are punting for a bit of the restoration action.
Tim Hannig, Jaguar Heritage MD, said:
There is no arguing about the desirability of this iconic Jaguar. The XJ12-C Broadspeed still looks fantastic today and although the condition of NWK 60P has deteriorated over the 20 years its been locked up, it still shows how the demand for Jaguar Heritage models has increased in recent times along with their values. We hope to see the car back on the road in the near future and we will continue to support owners of cars such as this famous XJ12-C through our Jaguar Heritage business.
Let’s hope the new owner finds the right people to put Steed’s Broadspeed Jaguar XJ12 Coupe back in to fine fettle.
