The BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe – a four-door coupe take on the new 8 Series – will debut in June, ahead of which BMW starts the tease.
It’s almost a year since the new BMW 8 Series Coupe arrived as BMW resurrected the range-topping 8 Series and effectively used it to replace the 6 Series. Which still doesn’t seem entirely logical.
As the 8 Series is a replacement for the 6 Series, it was hardly a surprise to see the new 8 Series Coupe joined by the new 8 Series Convertible a few months later. Which only leaves the new BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe to come (a car previewed by the BMW M8 Gran Coupe Concept) and then we have the full set of replacements for the old 6 Series range.
So you won’t be surprised to learn that BMW is planning to reveal the new 8 Series Gran Coupe next month – exactly a year on from the arrival of the new Coupe – and, of course, that means the inevitable tease has to start (photo above).
The 8 Series Gran Coupe is unlikely to hold many surprises – it’ll be basically a stretched 8 Series Coupe with a couple of extra doors – but it’s going to have to be very good to be as good as the 6 Series Gran Coupe, a car which was, in many ways, the star of the BMW range; great to look at and great to drive.
BMW say the 8 Series Gran Coupe displays consummate elegance and epitomises modern luxury, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed it’s a worthy successor to the 6 Series Gran Coupe.
The BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe will be revealed at the BMW Group #NextGen event to be held at BMW Welt in Munich on 25 – 27 June 2019.
