ALL BMW & MINI models get Amazon’s Alexa ‘Personal Assistant’ integrated in 2018
BMW announces it is integrating Amazon’s Alexa Personal Assistant in to its entire BMW and MINI range in 2018, complete with integrated SIM.
Many of us have got used to taking Alexa do do stuff, from playing our favourite tracks to turning the lights down. And, with few glitches, Amazon’s digital Personal Assistant is a bit of a star. And Alexa’s reach is about to extend in to the world of BMW and MINI as BMW announce that all their cars will be fitted with Alexa from the middle of next year (2018).
BMW Connected for Alexa has been around since last year allowing owners to do stuff like check schedules or vehicle information, but the new roll-out will mean you’ll be able to do with Alexa in your BMW or MINI what you can do at home.
Dieter May, BMW Digital VP, said:
By making this step of integrating Alexa into our models from mid-2018, BMW and MINI will form a more intrinsic part of our customers’ digital lifestyles.
Voice control first featured in BMW Group cars many years ago, and we are now enhancing its functionality by adding a digital ecosystem, which will open up all sorts of new possibilities that customers can access quickly, easily and safely from their car.
You won’t even need to be carrying a Smartphone with you to access Alexa in a BMW or MINI as they will get an integrated SIM card to keep you connected.
We’re sure it will go wider, but Alexa in a BMW from next year will only apply in the UK, Germany and USA.
