Roland Gumpert has issued a teaser photo for a new Gumpert due at Geneva 2012. We’re hoping it’s a new Apollo with Tornate looks.
We have quite a soft spot for the creations of ex-Audi man Roland Gumpert.
The only real drawback with Gumpert’s cars has been their looks. Challenging perhaps best describes the Gumpert Apollo in its various iterations. But one thing you can’t really moan about is performance; Gumpert knows how to tweak an Audi lump to deliver serious performance.
But despite the appeal of his cars, Roland Gumpert got in to financial difficulties a year or so back, and the whole Gumpert business was pared down to the bone. Fortunately, Gumpert got an injection of much needed cash in time to put everything back together.
That new investment in Gumpert saw the Gumpert Tornante by TOURING arrive at the Geneva Motor Show this year, complete with a very decent body and the same sort of bonkers performance we’ve come to expect from Gumpert’s road-legal track cars, thanks to its 700bhp 4.2 litre turbocharged Audi lump.
At the time the word was that Gumpert had a more extreme version of the Torante up its sleeve as the replacement for the Apollo, and a teaser photo that’s turned up this afternoon is pointing firmly in that direction.
Sadly, all we have is the teaser phot of the new Gumpert; no names, no pack drill. Perhaps because Roland Gumpert hasn’t yet decided just how extreme this new Apollo will be, or even what to all it?
But whatever the new Gumpert is, it will arrive at the Geneva Motor Show in Spring 2012.
