It looks like the more powerful XFR planned to take on the new M5 – the 2013 Jaguar XFR-S – could arrive by Paris 2012.
We’ve been talking about a new, more powerful XFR for some time – logically, the Jaguar XFR-S – with the underpinnings of the XKR-S. And it looks like it’s almost here.
It seems the new XFR-S, aiming to offer around 550bhp and capable of standing alongside the new, more powerful, BMW M5, will arrive in the Autumn, probably at Paris in September before going on sale in early 2013.
With its extra power, firmer suspension settings and a body kit based on the XKR-S, the XFR-S is an appealing prospect. It should offer performance much the same as the new M5, which will mean 0-62mph in around 4.4 seconds, an improvement of as much as 0.5s on the standard XFR.
That will have to suffice until we get an all new XF in 2014. The XF is just starting to feel its age, and on the technology front it will still be out-gunned by the Germans even if it can stand up to the power. But the soul of the XFR should balance that out – for now.
What we’re also still expecting is a TDV8 Jaguar XJ – a diesel Supersport, if you like – and a Supersport RS (or any other moniker you choose) as an XJ version of the XKR-S and XFR-S.
We’ll update when we have more.
