The new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe tease starts as BMW readies its Mercedes CLA competitor for a debut at the end of 2019.
Mercedes has the new CLA for those who want a ‘lifestyle’ four-door coupe of a certain size, so BMW needs the same. Step forward the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe.
BMW are calling the 2 Series Gran Coupe a “sporty and elegant four-door coupe”, claiming it sets a new standard for individuality and aesthetics in the sector (Ya Boo Mercedes), and will offer sportiness and connectivity in spades and bring new buyers to the BMW brand. So now you know.
Essentially a stretched four-door take on the 2 Series Coupe – with a liftback – it will come with the usual engine suspects, but there will almost certainly be a 365bhp ‘M’ version somewhere along the way, and be offered with an xDrive 4WD option on at least some of the engine options.
The interior of the new 2 Series Gran Coupe looks set to be moved on in line with BMW’s more recent offerings, and that will be extended to the current 2 Series Coupe and Cabrio when they get updated next year.
The 2 Series Gran Coupe will be revealed in November, and go on sale in spring 2020. Expect a plethora of further teases before then.
