Car buyers have decided that the environment is of little or no concern with only 1 in 5 buyers considering the emissions of a car when buying.
I know, we bang on about the nonsense of having CO2 targets for everything we buy, sell, rent or use. And bang on even more about the absolute nonsense of basing our entire financial future on the basis of the highly dubious assertion that in some ways CO2 is bad for the planet.
But as a car news and reviews site we have to acknowledge the CO2 emissions of the cars we test, review or otherwise report on because we all get charged based on the amount of CO2 our cars emit, from the initial tax when we buy a new car to the annual VED. But really, there’d be as much validity for charging based on car colour as CO2 emissions.
Sadly, we thought we were a lonely voice of reason in a sea of received wisdom. But it’s starting to look as if we’re not, as car buyers on Carmony seem to care far less about the ‘Environmental’ credentials of their car purchase than almost anything else, with only one in five considering environmental issues of any importance.
Carmony put this down to cash-strapped buyers putting their pockets first. We prefer to put it down to an outbreak of common sense as people realise that the garbage spouted by Governments and fund-seeking scientists with an agenda on climate change is exactly that – garbage.
Which is great, but it leaves the Government with a big issue – how to justify the endless taxes we are subject to if they are forced to accept the man-made climate change theory as nonsense.
Car colour, perhaps?
