The new Top Gear with Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc will feature a ‘Star in a Rallycross Car’ rather than a ‘Star in a Reasonably Priced Car’ when the new series starts.
Assuming the new Top Gear – that’s the one with Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc – actually manages to air on 29 May (a date that has been pushed back at least twice) we’re going to fin that not only do we have to get uses to a gaggle of new presenters, but the format will change somewhat.
Perhaps the biggest change will be the end of a segment that’s been running forever – ‘Star in a Reasonably Priced Car’ – to be replaced by something Evans and Co. clearly believe will be more entertaining – ‘Star in a Rallycross Car’.
The track layout at Dunsfold has been extended to create a rallycross zone, with a water splash area and a jump, and the stars will be driving a ‘Suped-Up Mini Cooper’. Now we don’t actually know whether that will be a suped-up MINI Cooper or a suped-up Mini Cooper (that’s a new Cooper or an old Cooper), but it sounds an interesting twist.
The first star guests look to be Gordon Ramsey and American actor Jesse Eisenberg (although there were rumours going around that Evans has collared Brad Pitt for Episode 1), so it looks like it’s going to be a head to head.
As for what else we can expect, it seems the first episode will include the Reliant jaunt to Blackpool with Evans and LeBlanc, LeBlanc in the Ariel Nomad in Morocco and Evans and Sabine Schmitz playing Top Gun with a Dodge Viper and Chevy Corvette. Which accounts for about two thirds of the teaser trailers for the new series.
The new series of Top Gear will start on 29 May at 8pm (UK time) on BBC2
