With the launch of the McLaren MP4-12C getting ever closer, McLaren has now revealed the UK price as £168,500 – just below the Ferrari 458 Italia.
We’ve seen and heard lots about McLaren’s first road car in more than a decade – the McLaren MP4-12c. We’ve had the official reveal of the MP4-12C back in September 2009, some track time in the MP4-12C for Button and Hamilton, the MP4-12C flying up the Goodwood Hillclimb and umpteen other stories you’ll find if you have a look at the main McLaren MP4-12C page.
But what we haven’t had up until now is a price. The cynics have suggested that the price would come in at a smidge below the Ferrari 458 Italia, so those same cynics won’t be shocked to learn that McLaren has put a UK price tag of £168,500 on the MP4-12C – just below the Ferrari’s list.
The price point may be a little amusing, but it won’t be amusing for Ferrari if Ron Dennis can deliver on the promises he’s made for the MP4-12C. Ron says the MP4-12C will offer not only the fastest car for the money, but the best dealer service and the highest build quality. Big promises.
The specs do look promising though. The MP4-12C gets a 3.8 litre, twin-turbo V8 revving to 8500rpm. It produces almost 600bhp and will do the 0-200km in under 10 seconds. Ron also says it will have lower emissions and better economy than any comparable car.
And we have to say it does all look very promising. We had a good look at the new McLaren at Goodwood this year and were impressed. It has presence; something you can’t necessarily build in. And we also encountered it on the road home and were just as impressed with it away from the whole ‘Event Hype’.
The McLaren MP4-12C has ‘Success’ stamped all over it. Especially at £168.5k
