The Ford Mustang is a very big deal in the US, so it’s no surprise Ford are producing a special model to celebrate the launch of the first Mustang in 1964.
Nods to the original design include chrome bezels round the bottom of the tail lights, a fake fuel filler cap on the back and louvered rear quarter windows.
Inside, the Mustang 50 gets aluminium trim spanning the double instrument panel, leather steering wheel, two-tone cashmere and black upholstery, contrast stitching, cashmere stitching and suede binding on the floor mats and a ‘Mustang 50 Year’ logo on the seat backs.
Moray Callum, Ford’s Design VP, said:
The new Mustang blends a muscular, contemporary shape with design cues that define it as quintessentially Mustang.
The 50 Year Limited Edition adds details that set it apart from other Mustangs, while hearkening back to the 1965 original.
Chrome trim was much more prevalent on cars in the 1960s than it is today, so we added some discreet highlights for the grille, side glass and tri-bar taillamps.
All the Ford Mustang 50 year Limited Editions will come with Ford’s 5.0 litre V8 producing 420bhp and will be among the first 2015 Mustangs built when production starts later in the year. Ford has not revealed a price for the Mustang 50.
With only 1964 Mustang 50s being built it’s highly unlikely it will be offered in the UK.
