2015 Volvo XC90 First Edition price & spec – costs £68,000

The first of the new 2015 Volvo XC90 models to go on sale is the XC90 First Edition. We have specification and price details – costs £68,000 fully equipped.

The more we’ve looked this week at the new Volvo XC90, the more we’re beginning to see it as a seminal model for Volvo in the same way the original XC90 was in 2002.

And, if all it promises comes close to reality when the first new XC90 s start to arrive in 2015, the new XC90 really could make serious inroads in to the market for premium SUVs currently dominated by Mercedes, BMW, Audi and Land Rover.

The new XC90 ‘s clever packaging, good looks, technology and toys certainly seem to offer a beguiling package for a premium family SUV, although the price is likely to be a touch stronger than the current model.

Volvo are yet to release full pricing for the regular XC90s, but we do know that the first model to go on sale – the XC90 First Edition – will cost a rather hefty £68,000, and the Volvo XC90 D5 AWD Momentum – which goes on sale in October ahead of first UK customer cars in May 2015 – will cost £45,000, around the same as the currently most expensive XC90 – the D5 AWD Executive.

But it’ll be the £68k XC90 First Edition that will grab the headlines for price – more than £20k more expensive than the currently most expensive XC90 – but you will get a lot for your money.

In the UK, it looks like Volvo are only offering the D5 First Edition (other markets are certainly getting the T6 First Edition too, but we’re waiting for UK confirmation of First Edition model availability), so there’s a good £20k plus of extras to be found between the XC90 D5 AWD Momentum and the First Edition.

That will be accounted for by the long list of goodies on offer for the First Edition, with unique badging and numbered treadplates to identify it, electronically controlled air suspension with five modes (including a personal set-up mode) and an Onyx Black paint job, 21″ Alloys, Amber Nappa Leather, Charcoal Leather for the dash and Linear Walnut inlays.

The interior gets electric, ventilated seats with the second row outside seats also heated and even the third row seats power operated.

The impressive, Tesla-esque, tablet screen in the centre of the dash controls the majority of functions, and the First Editions come with a 1400 watt Bowers and Wilkins sound system with 19 speakers and an array of Volvo’s new technology, including Run-Off Road Protection, Auto Brake Intersection and City Safe.

£68,000 is a loot of money for a new Volvo XC90, but with just 1,927 First Edition models available it looks set to sell out quickly.
