The Hyundai i30 is getting a mid-life facelift for 2015, but the big news for the i30 is the arrival of a 183bhp Turbo version, a car Hyundai hope will pick up sales from the Veloster Turbo which is set to be axed from the UK market.
But the biggest changes for the 2015 i30 come under the skin, with Hyundai introducing a new i30 Turbo – only available as a five-door in the UK but also as a coupe in other markets – which comes with a 1.6 litre turbo developing 183bhp, enough to get to 62mph in 8 seconds and on to 136mph with official economy of 39mpg, and a six-speed manual gearbox.
Nor exactly a hot hatch – and not even as powerful as sister company Kia’s Cee’d GT – but probably a more saleable car than the Veloster.
But the i30 Turbo will get an appealing spec including 18″ alloys, LED running lights, xenon headlights, red dials, sports exhaust and red highlights, and at a price likely to be around £19k it should be affordable and appealing.
Engine updates for the i30 include a new 1.4 litre (1352cc) Kappa four-cylinder engine to replace the old Gamma 1.4 litre offering 50mpg and emissions of 129g/km, and the 1.6 litre diesel and petrol engines get a new seven-speed dual clutch auto gearbox.
The new Hyundai i30 will go on sale in the UK in 2015.
