John Steed’s Avengers Jaguar XJ 12C up for grabs UPDATE: Video

The original Broadspeed Jaguar XJ 12 Coupe – NWK 60P – driven by John Steed in the 1970s Avengers is up for sale with an estimate of between £10-12,000.

Despite threats by Jaguar to deliver a new XJ Coupe, nothing has come of it so far. But if, or when, Jaguar do decide to build an XJC again it’ll have to be something special to be as appealing as the 1970s XJC, especially the Jaguar XJ 12C with Broadspeed bits driven by John Steed in the Avengers.

The John Steed XJC disappeared from view in the early 1990s, but it’s now turned up with H&H Classics and will be offered for sale on 14 October 2015 with an estimate of just £10-12,000.

To be fair, the XJC is in pretty tired condition – although H&H say it’s been dry-stored – and if you want to do it justice it’s not going to be a cheap project.

But anyone old enough to remember Steed’s XJC – or who have seen it on Avengers re-runs – will know the potential is all there, and even if it costs s few bob to fix, the end result will be spectacular.

Jaguar XJCs from the 1970s – only around 10,000 were built with either the 4.2 or 5.3 V12 – are already starting to rise in value, and a fully fettled Steed XJC will doubtless have a premium over other XJCs from the same period.

So if you have pockets deep enough to consider a new XJC if it ever arrives, why not use the money to buy Steed’s XJC, fettle it properly and end up with a car that should grow in value?
