Land Rover’s SVO division has created an ‘off the shelf’ armoured Range Rover – the Range Rover Sentinel – certified to VR8 standard. Cost around £295,000.
It may not be a huge market,. but if you’re a Head of State, the boss of a controversial business or prone to getting involved in high-end nefarious activities, then an armoured car is a must. And now Land Rover has that covered with the new Range Rover Sentinel – an armoured Range Rover certified to VR8 standard. That means handing a new Range Rover Autobiography over to JLR’s SVO division – complete with 3.0 litre supercharged engine – where the work starts to make the Range Rover as impervious to attack as possible.
The SVO RR Sentinel has a six-piece armoured passenger cell made from super high strength steel that can keep you safe from 7.62mm high-velocity armour piercing bullets, offers lateral protection for blasts up to 15kg of TNT and from DN51 grenades under the floor and above the roof.
The glass from the Autobiography gets dumped, to be replaced by bullet-proof armour glass, there’s an anti-tamper exhaust and self-sealing fuel tank, run-flat inserts in the tyres and uprated suspension and brakes to cope with the extra weight.
The Range Rover Sentinel – which costs from around £295,000 (plus taxes) – debuts at the Defence and Security Equipment International Show next week and is available to buyers in the UK, Europe, South America, Africa and the Middle East.
