The Ford GT – Ford’s new supercar – is now open for ordering, and Ford has received 7,000 applications to buy the new car already.
Last week we revealed that the Ford GT – Ford’s new Supercar – was available to order online, and Ford has already received 7,000 applications for their new halo car. It’s hardly the sort of response Tesla got for the Model 3, but it’s a significant number for a car that will only arrive at the rate of 250 a year, and the initial application process was just for the first two year run of 500 cars.
What is rather different about Ford’s handling of the orders for the GT is that they aren’t really orders, just applications.
Ford has made it clear they’re taking a leaf out Ferrari’s book with the GT, and will be vetting all the applications to decide if the applicant is a ‘worthy’ buyer.
The picture is also a little muddied because the order process for the GT doesn’t require a deposit, so any, or even all, of the applications could be nothing more than morons playing. But it seems unlikely.
What is more likely is that the majority of applications are from potential buyers genuinely wanting to grab a new GT, and if only half of the applications are real Ford will have to build the GT for fourteen years just to meet demand.
Which seems a little unlikely.

Pete says
There is no way I would ‘beg’ to buy a car off anybody. Not even the late Enzo Ferrari. Come to think of it, especially the late Enzo Ferrari as his are the favourites of a certain Chris Evans.
