Mercedes-AMG Project One is now the Mercedes-AMG ONE
Mercedes-AMG has announced that the Project One hypercar will carry forward its development name in to production, simply known as the Mercedes-AMG One.
Mercedes-AMG’s venture in to the world of Hypercars with the Project One moves closer to completion, and the time has come for a production name for the Project One. But what could it be?Could it be something evocative – like AMG Silver Arrow – or could it be something technical with lots of numbers? No, it’s not.
Following the lead of Ferrari with LaFerrari, Mercedes-AMG has decided that the Project One will become the Mercedes-AMG One. Which must have taken a lot of thought and, just like LaFerrari (The Ferrari), leaves Mercedes-AMG nowhere to go with a higher superlative for subsequent replacements. Interesting.
Mercedes say the name illustrates that the AMG One will be the pinnacle of their model portfolio (we’d never have guessed) and that it brings F1 technology to the road (ditto).
As an update on the ‘One’s’ progress to production, Mercedes say the ‘One’ has been undergoing intensive testing for months in England on race tracks, and that its active aerodynamics are undergoing testing of the multi-part, two-stage extendable rear wing.
AMG has also built a mobile showroom for AMG One customers – called “The Future of Driving Performance” – to show the car’s latest status and let buyers sit in the cockpit and get a feel for the car. And, no doubt, encourage then to spend.
At the moment, the Mercedes-AMG One show truck is parked in the grounds of the Mercedes outlet in Munich. Expect it to turn up elsewhere from time to time.
