Mercedes-AMG GT R Roadster
The Mercedes-AMG GT R Roadster arrives as Mercedes chops the top of the GT R Coupe for a limited run of just 750 convertibles.
It’s taken Mercedes almost three years since the arrival of the Mercedes-AMG GT R to decide to take its roof off to deliver a GT R Roadster. But they’ve finally got round to it.Whether or not you think the GT R’s track-focused demeanour lends itself to the Roadster treatment or not, it does look like you will struggle to find any real difference between the Coupe and Roadster when it comes to the drive. Well, apart from blue skies over your head.
Power still comes from Mercedes’ 4.0 litre turbo V8, delivering 568bhp and 516lb/ft of torque, sent through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox to the back wheels and, say Mercedes, will still get to 62mph in the same 3.6 seconds as the Coupe. But top speed is down 1mph at 196mph. We’re not sure you’ll notice.
Mercedes has carried over all the stuff like active engine mounts, locking diff and lower suspension from the Coupe, and even the great big adjustable back wing carries over, as does the rear diffuser, side skirts and wider wings.
Inside there’s Nappa leather, sports seats, 10.25″ infotainment and carbon fibre trim.
We’re assuming the UK will get an allocation out of the 750 AMG GT R Roadsters bbeing built, but that’s yet to be confirmed. A is the price.
