You might have thought that the Porsche Macan, or maybe the Alfa Stelvio, was the pick of the performance SUVs in their sector. But if you want the quickest, certainly round the Nurburgring, then you’ll be wanting the new Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S.Revealed at the Shanghai Motor Show, the new AMG GLC 63 comes in two power flavours, with the regular model getting 469bhp and 442lb/ft of torque from its 4.0 litre V8, and the GLC 63 S an even more potent 503bhp and 516lb/ft of torque. And that’s enough to get round the Nurburgring in 7m 49.4s.
It’s also enough to get the GLC 63 S to 62mph in just 3.8 seconds (4.0s for the regular 63), with power going to all four wheels through a nine-speed auto ‘box, with ‘slippery’ mode to keep things together when the weather’s bad, electronically controlled locking diff, AMG suspension with adaptive dampers and air springs at the back.

Inside gets an updated instrument panel with Mercedes’ latest MBUX system with AMG-specific menus, new AMG steering wheel and chunky sports seats.
Tobias Moers,, Mercedes boss, said:
The lap record on the North Loop has proven to impressive effect that the GLC 63 is right at the top of its segment in terms of vehicle dynamics. With our V8 biturbo, we hold a decisive USP in the competitive environment. With AMG DYNAMICS we were able to hone the vehicle dynamics even more and also further increase the suitability for everyday use and the connectivity with MBUX. This makes the GLC 63 an all-rounder for every occasion.
The new Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 and its Coupe sibling will go on sale in the UK in the summer.
