The open-top take on the new Huracan – the Lamborghini Huracan Spyder – will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September to take on the Ferrari 488 Spider.
It’s more than eighteen months since the Lamborghini Huracan arrived to replace the ancient Gallardo, and we still haven’t seen an open-top Spyder version.
That was expected to change at Geneva next year with the arrival of the Lamborghini Huracan Spyder, but it seems Lamborghini has brought the Huracan Spyder’s arrival forward to next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show, all the better to compare it with its biggest rival – the Ferrari 488 Spider – which will also get its first public outing at Frankfurt.
The comparisons probably won’t favour the Huracan Spyder, although a Huracan with fresh air above and with a 602bhp V10, four-wheel-drive and impressive performance is still an appealing thing.
But the Ferrari gets more power – although it’s rear-wheel-drive – and prices are likely to be very similar at something over £200k, so it looks like the Huracan Spyder may be the third spot choice for convertible supercar buyers, trailing behind the 488 Spider and the McLaren 650S Spider in appeal. Although that naturally aspirated V10 will be enough to swing some buyers in its favour.
The new Lamborghini Huracan Spyder will go on sale shortly after its Frankfurt debut.
