The Nissan Sway Concept has been revealed at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show as a properly funky take on a new supermini to replace the current Micra.
It’s hard to imagine that buyers of the current cutesy Nissan Micra would find the Nissan Sway appealing – but we do.
Nissan say the Sway is a look at a future generation of compact Nissans, and if it is, we’re all for it.
Gone are the rounded, retro-cute – but boring – lines of the Micra, and in come lots of angles and funky design with a bold grill and bold feature lines.
Now you might think that the Sway is all concept frippery, but you have to remember that Nissan is the company that delivered the Juke – a fugly but appealing car that broke the design mould in its sector – so there’s every chance the Sway could turn in to the next Micra without losing too much of its radical looks.
Yes, the suicide doors probably wouldn’t make production, but we can see the contrast roofline and matching highlights on the bumpers and sills remaining, as Nissan look to up-sell with lots of custom options.
Even the interior – which looks simple but with lots of concept colours and materials – could stay for production, even if the colours and coverings are a bit toned-down.
The sooner Nissan dump the ailing Micra and replace it with the funky Sway, the better.
