2015 SMART ForTwo & SMART ForFour revealed

The Mercedes take on the Renault Twingo has been revealed with the 2015 SMART ForTwo & SMART ForFour revealed ahead of going on sale late 2014.

Mercedes has been busy teasing their 2015 SMART car, and now its revealed.

SMART believe they’ve kept everything that’s great about the current SMART, and ditched everything that was poor. In particular, the awful automated manual ‘box has been ditched in favour of a five-speed manual or six-speed dual-clutch auto, instantly making the new SMART more appealing to drive.

The whole aim with the 2015 SMART is to make the ForTwo and ForFour a success, something that can’t be said of SMARTs to date which have failed miserably to come within a country mile of the ambitious sales targets Mercedes set.

But with a car that’s cost a lot less to develop – thanks to three quarters of it being pure Renault Twingo – slightly more traditional looks and better to drive, SMART is on the right track.

There will be three trim levels available on the new SMARTs, with even the entry-level car getting keyless entry, Cruise and LCD display, with more big-car goodies – like heated seats and high-end sound – available on higher trim levels.

In terms of size, the ForTwo and ForFour are the same height and width (1660mm wide, 155omm high) with the ForTwo just 2590mm long with an 1873mm wheelbase and the ForFour stretched to 3490mm long with a 2494mm wheelbase.

That makes the For Four a much more useable City Car for small families, with proper 90 degree opening back doors and the ability to squeeze children – and flexible adults – in the back.

Power comes from either a 1.0 litre naturally-aspirated 3-cylinder engine with 70bhp and 67lb/ft of torque or a 0.9 litre turbo with 89bhp and 99lb/ft of torque with the choice of either a five speed manual or a six-speed dual-clutch auto. A big improvement.

The 2015 SMART ForTwo and SMART ForFour are due to gon on sale at the end of 2014, with prices expected to be the same as the outgoing model. That means about £10,500 for the ForTwo and £11,000 for the ForFour.
