2017 Nissan Micra revealed – and it looks like the Micra is appealing again

The 2017 Nissan Micra has been revealed in Paris as Nissan reveal the car they hope will right the wrongs of the current Micra and tackle the Ford Fiesta.

The new Nissan Micra was teased last week ahead of its Paris debut, and now its been unveiled and looks to be a game changer for Nissan after the trials and tribulations of the current Micra.

Looking like a production take on the Nissan Sway Concept from last year’s Geneva Motor Show, the new Micra is a chunk bigger than the current car – longer, wider and lower –  and with looks from the Sway appears funky, contemporary and appealing.

The fashionable floating roof, concealed door handles, long swept back headlights, raked windscreen and new take on the Nissan ‘V’ grille all work cohesively together and, certainly in terms of looks, eradicate the wrongs of the current Micra.

Inside, Nissan say the new Micra offers much more comfort, a lower driving position, much more room and a gliding-wing dashboard to emphasise space and light. You can also expect the material quality to be significantly better.

Standard technology includes the sort of stuff you wouldn’t normally see on a B-Segment car like Lane Departure prevention, Emergency Braking, Around View Monitor, Traffic Sign Recognition, High Beam Assist and Blind Spot Warning. There’s also new Bose Sound and a 7″ infotainment central display.

Underpinning the new Micra is Renault-Nissan’s CMF-B Platform – which also underpins the Clio and will be under the next gen Juke – with Active Ride Control and Active Trace Control promising sharper handling, much improved noise insulation and a much slippier shape too.

Engine options to start with are the 0.9 litre turbo three-cylinder and 1.5 litre four-cylinder diesel, both delivering 89bhp, with a 1.0 litre petrol offering 75bhp to follow. But you can expect more – including a likely performance model and a hybrid – to follow in due course.

Sales of the new Nissan Micra in the UK and Europe will start in March 2017, by which time we should have had prices and know how much a new Nissan Micra will cost.
