2018 Volkswagen Touareg goes in to tease overdrive
The 2018 Volkswagen Touareg will be revealed on 23 March 2018 in China, ahead of which we get a video tease, some more detail, photos and even reviews of the ‘not quite ready’ new Touareg.
The 2018 Volkswagen Touareg will be revealed on 23 March, but ahead of that VW is going overboard with its tease for the new Touareg, with not just photos and videos of a slightly camouflaged new Touareg, but on top of that they’ve even let some of the glossy motoring magazines loose on the new Touareg for a review.VW is still hiding the front and back end of the new Touareg under some swirly camouflage, but a look at last year’s GTE Concept, and the new Arteon, will give you a pretty good idea of how the new Touareg will look.
The consensus from the reviews seems to be that the new Touareg will be a bit of a tour de force from VW, turning the new Touareg in to a proper VW Flagship model in the process.
Underpinning the new SUV is the same MLB Evo Platform you can already find under the Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and Bentley Bentayga, and VW seems to be throwing plenty of toys in to the game.
That includes rear-wheel steering for tight manoeuvres at low speed and greater agility when pushing along, air suspension, active roll compensation, Digital Innovision Cockpit with lots of toys and customisation options, and more room in the cabin and boot. But despite that, there’s no seven seat option to poke a stick at the Volvo XC90.
Under the bonnet there’s a choice of a couple of V6 Diesels – 226bhp and 280bhp – and petrol and plug-in hybrid options on the horizon, but although the new Touareg is 4WD it looks like VW are aiming for a great on-road SUV, not a Land Rover challenger. Which is no surprise.
More teases, no doubt, will arrive in the next three weeks.
