Nissan launches X-TRAIL Platinum Edition with lots of toys

Nissan launches the X-Trail Platinum Edition with every option box already ticked. Costs from £29,180.

The Nissan X-TRAIL is a perfectly good example of an on-road SUV, much in the style of the Freelander 2. It does everything quite well, but nothing spectacularly. But it is very competent, very well built, doesn’t do a bad job and doesn’t have any real problems, even if it is a bit bland.

Now we get the Nissan X-TRAIL Platinum Edition which attempts to throw everything in Nissan’s option list at the X-Trail, perhaps in the hope of adding character and appeal. Which it probably does if you just want a huge spec on your otherwise uninspiring SUV.

Nothing changes under the bonnet of the X-TRAIL, with a 2.0 litre dCi producing 170bhp and 266lb/ft of torque. That will give you an uninspiring 0-60mph in around 10 seconds, but it will average around 44mpg. The Platinum Edition comes with a choice of either FWD or 4WD.

Goodies on offer to warrant the ‘Platinum Edition’ badge include leather trim with electric, heated front seats, a touchscreen with SatNav, iPod and Bluetooth connectivity and a reversing camera that shows in the rear view mirror instead of on the touchscreen.

Outside the Platinum X-TRAIL gets skid plates under the front and back bumpers, chrome side steps and chrome protectors on the side. Just about all the accessories Nissan could think of.

Just 200 Nissan X-TRAIL Platinum Edition are being built, with the manual version costing £29,180 and the auto £30,560.
