Mercedes Benz has released footage of the SLS AMG testing

As usual, we’ve had the drips of information on the Mercedes replacement for the McLaren SLR – the SLS AMG. And of course lots of spy shots. But we’ve also had what I think (and correct me if I’m wrong) is a first from a car manufacturer – official spy shots of the SLS AMG. Somewhat oxymoronic.

But I suppose if there’s enough interest in a car, and the pictures are appearing anyway, you may as well do it yourself and put the car across as you want it. But Mercedes Benz has now gone one better – the Official Spy Video!

Yes, footage direct from Mercedes of the SLS AMG testing in full disguise. Which sort of seems odd to me, but why not? If you’ve released the pictures you may as well, in this digital age, release a video too.

And even though the car is in disguise, you do get a pretty good feel for it. Size, shape (if not detail), the Gullwing doors, glimpses of the interior and some of the running gear. It’s not at all pointless and is perhaps something other car makers should consider doing.

The SLS AMG is still some way off (Frankfurt to show – cars on the road next year) and this is of course a good way of keeping interest in the car. A number of details on the SLS AMG were released at the start of the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month, together with pictures, and the video is about as much as we’ll get for a while now. Enjoy.
