If we didn’t already know the current Mercedes S Class was coming to the end of its shelf life, the launch of the Mercedes S Class Grand Edition last summer confirmed it.
And just to make sure we’re in no doubt, Mercedes has now launched a Grand Edition of the S Class Coupe with AMG extras, designo bits inside and out and new alloys, to finally consign the current S Class saloon and coupe to history – the Mercedes CL Grand Edition.
The CL Grand Edition gets the usual makeover, so that means a choice of three designo paint finishes – platinum black metallic, mocha black metallic and the matt finish of magno cashmere white – with the AMG Sports Pack for extra butchness, a choice of alloys and the required ‘Grand Edition’ badges.
Inside you’ll get a choice of analine leather from the designo range – designo aniline leather armagnac, designo aniline leather deep black and designo aniline leather porcelain – with the usual choice of trim finishes.
In Germany the ‘Grand Edition’ pack can be bolted on to any of the non-AMG CLs on offer – CL 500 BlueEFFICIENCY, CL 500 BlueEFFICIENCY 4Matic or CL600 – for €4,850 +vat. As we only get the CL 500 BlueEFFICIENCY in the UK (which always seems a daft moniker for a big V8-engined uber-coupe) it looks like its Hobson’s choice for the CL Grand Edition in the UK.
Always assuming Mercedes-Benz UK actually offers the CL 500 Grand Edition. They haven’t conformed yet.
