The rumours that Renault would revive the Alpine badge to bolt on a new performance car in 2012 have been rife for some time, especially as 2012 is the 50th anniversary of the launch of the Alpine Berlinette. And that all makes sense.
As does the rumour – growing stronger the closer we get – that Renault will use the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix to preview their 21st century take on the Alpine A110 on a car the Interweb has decided is called the Renault Alpine A110-50. And they may be right.
In fact, we think there’s every chance that Renault will turn up with a new Alpine, if not at the Monaco Grand Prix then somewhere else and probably very soon. But will it look like the photo on the left above? Possible, but that doesn’t make it a photo of the new Alpine A110-50.
In fact, the photo looks like a Photoshop based on the Renault DeZir, yet another Renault/Nissan EV offering from a couple of years ago that hasn’t made it in to production.
Of course, it could be that Renault has used the DeZir as the basis for the Alpine A110-50 complete with, apparently, a Megane Trophy chassis and produced the photo above. But it looks like a Photoshop to us.
We should learn more by this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix.
