Renault Alpine A110-50 - it's official
We had our doubts that the Renault Alpine A110-50 photo we published earlier this week was real, but it seems it was; which goes to show we should really lock up our scepticism more securely.
And now, as promised, Renault has revealed their first Alpine in almost twenty years in the A110-50, a car that has the underpinnings of the Megane Trophy and a body that seems to owe most of its DNA to the electric Renault DeZir Concept.
But this isn’t a new Alpine for the road (although it could be if the reaction is positive) but a ‘Racing Concept’ with the Renault Megane’s platform, a tubular chassis, a 3.5 litre 24-valve 400bhp V6 engine with an F1-style transmission, a steering wheel with a colour screen and virtually no driver aids.
No indication of performance on the A110-50 as yet, but it ‘s light at 880kg and with 400bhp on tap it should be swift – under 3 seconds o-62mph seems likely.
Interestingly, if the Alpine A110-50 does turn in to a road car and gets built it can’t come to the UK with the Alpine name. That badge was owned by Sunbeam and now, via a circuitous route, is owned by PSA. So we’d end up with the Renault A110-50 Gordini in all probability.
