Despite reports to the contrary, it seems highly unlikely that Bentley will produce a road going version of the Continental GT3.

The Continental GT3 is just a concept at the moment – although it will become a proper track car – but it has already had Autocar gazing in to its crystal ball to suggest that Bentley will be building a GT3 for the road, with a 700bhp W12 and 4WD, and will sell it in limited numbers. But that doesn’t add up to us.
We know that Bentley’s focus at the moment on their road cars is their fastest ever production car – the new Bentley Continental GT Speed – a car that is almost as swift to 62mph as the Continental Supersports and has a higher top speed.
But what we also know is that Bentley are keen to extend and build on the ‘Supersports’ brand, and we’re expecting the next high performance Bentley (not that ‘regular Bentleys aren’t high performance anyway) to come in the guise of a new Supersports based on the latest Continental GT.
So the idea that Bentley will build a limited edition Continental GT3 seems wide of the mark. Instead, we expect to see a new Continental Supersports arrive towards the end of 2013, probably sporting something around 675bhp from its W12 and be offered as both a coupe and convertible.
If – and when – that happens, it won’t leave much room for a GT3 Special Limited Edition to offer much more.
