A new Ford Mustang isn’t usually big news for UK car buyers, not unless you happen to be a muscle car fan. But the arrival of the new Mustang for the 2015 MY is different.
With that in mind, Ford has more or less brought the Mustang in to the 21st century, with independent rear suspension replacing the archaic live rear axle, a lighter and stiffer body promising better dynamics and a major uplift in quality.
Inside, the Mustang still gets the familiar dash layout, but the interior is much higher quality than in Mustangs past and there’s a big (8″) infotainment screen sitting in the centre.
On the outside, the new Mustang still evokes the original with familiar proportions, powerdome bonnet (complete with a take on Ford’s ‘Aston Martin’ grill), big wheel arches and the Mustang;s trademark triple tail lights.
Under the bonnet, Ford has fitted a trio of engines including a new 2.3 litre four-cylinder EcoBoost engine offering 305bhp and 300lb/ft of torque, the 5.0 litre V8 with 420bhp (although that could become 500bhp before too long) and the entry-level 3.7 litre V6. We’re expecting both the 2.3 litre EcoBoost and 5.0 litre V8 to be offered in RHD.
All three engines (two in the UK) will come with the option of a six-speed manual or auto ‘box.

April 2014 – when the new Mustang gets its official launch – is the 50 year anniversary of the original Mustang, and Ford hope they’ve done enough to make the new Mustang as appealing as the original.
