Hyundai Genesis gets RECORD-BREAKING safety test score

The new Hyundai Genesis – heading for the UK in limited numbers – has scored the highest ever rating in Australia’s ANCAP safety tests.

Hyundai’s transformation in to a mainstream car maker competing toe to toe with car makers from Europe and Japan is now pretty much completed, and the next step is testing the ‘Premium’ waters in Europe with the new Hyundai Genesis.

Aimed directly at established luxury marques from Japan and Europe, the new Genesis is a promising offering from Hyundai UK, although it will be more about creating a halo effect for its lesser cars than cleaning up with massive sales of the Genesis.

The credibility of the Genesis will also benefit from the news that the new Genesis has just scored the highest ever score in the ANCAP (Australasian New Car Assessment Program), with its score of 36.88 out of 37 giving it a 5 star rating and outscoring every other car ANCAP has tested in the last 21 years.

ANCAP Chairman, Lauchlan McIntosh, said:

Genesis is Hyundai’s flagship model and as such offers a high level of physical crashworthiness and excellent safety features as standard.

This is one of the first times we have seen the word ‘Standard’ listed against almost every safety feature on our checklist. Importantly, automatic emergency braking is one of these standard features – one that has recently been left off many new models hitting our shores.

It’s a great feather in the cap for Hyundai, and should give buyers of the Genesis in the UK the reassurance that Hyundai are up to the task of building a credible full-size premium car that can stand up to Europe.

That said, the numbers coming to the UK – with only a 3.8 litre V6 RWD model available – will be limited, but look to offer a lot for the likely starting point of around £50k.
