Jaguar F-Type AWD revealed as part of F-Type range expansion (+video)

The all-wheel-drive Jaguar F-Type is now confirmed for a launch at the LA Auto Show as Jaguar reveals the F-Type range will expand from six to 14 models in 2015.

We revealed last month that the Jaguar F-Type AWD – the 4×4 F-Type – was heading for the LA Auto Show this month and going on sale in 2014. And that has now been confirmed by Jaguar.

But it’s not just the arrival of 4WD for the F-Type that’s coming in 2015, the whole F-Type range is to be expanded from the current six models (F-Type, F-Type S and F-Type R Coupe and Convertible) to fourteen, which no doubt means that AWD will be available across the range as will manual gearbox options.

There is also a good chance we could see an F-Type with one of the new Ingenium range of engines.

Jaguar has chosen to reveal the AWD F-Type as part of a partnership with the Bloodhound SSC world record team (which hopes to break the 1000mph barrier in 2015) with the new F-Type R AWD taking part in a communications test with the Bloodhound team in South Africa (video below).

In R guise, the AWD F-Type can get to 60mph in 3.9 seconds (0.2 seconds quicker than the RWD version) and on to a top speed of 186mph.

Ian Hoban, Jaguar’s Vehicle Line Director, said:

Our target with engineering the all-wheel drive F-TYPE was to maintain the engaging rear-drive character that’s so important to Jaguar sports cars, yet offer even greater dynamic capability.

The result is a controllable, exploitable and blisteringly fast performance car in all weather and road conditions.

Full details of the new Jaguar F-Type range, including which models will be available with the new drivetrain, will be revealed at the LA Auto Show on 19 November.
