Mercedes has revealed their vision of a future where autonomous cars take the hard work of driving with the debut of the the Mercedes F 015 Luxury in Motion concept at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, and it’s more mobile lounge than luxury Mercedes.
Inside is covered with display screens integrated to the dash, rear and side panels that work with touch or gesture control and lots of metal, glass, leather and wood to create a luxury environment, with four individual swivelling seats.
Under the skin, as we suspected, sits a plug-in hydrogen fuel cell-powered drivetrain with two rear mounted motors producing a total of 268bhp and 294lb/ft of torque, enough for a 6.7 second 0-62mph and a range of 684 miles.
As well as being powered by the fuel cell, the lithium ion batteries can be charged wirelessly for a range of 124 miles without power from the fuel cell, and the hydrogen tanks – integrated in to the floor – enough for another 559 miles.
The Mercedes F 015 Luxury in Motion concept isn’t a future production model, rather a showcase for the sort of technology Mercedes will integrate in to cars in the future as the car becomes more an extension of home or office rather than just a means of getting where you’re going.
