The electric Nissan LEAF retained its title as the best-selling electric car in the UK and Europe in 2014, doubling sales in the UK compared to 2013.

Nissan LEAF UK sales more than doubled in 2014
The electric Nissan LEAF has been on sale in Europe since 2011, is built in the UK and is something of a sales success story. Well, in comparison to other electric cars, that is.
But however far from reality the predictions may have been, the reality is that the LEAF is still selling well against the competition (14,658 sales in Europe in 2014), with the Renault Zoe (11,227) the closest competitor in Europe, although not far behind was the very ‘Premium’ Tesla S (8734).
Nissan’s Europe VP, Guillaume Cartier, said:
We can now see the impact that word of mouth is having on our sales, with 95 percent of our customers happy to recommend their car to a friend and 50 percent saying they would never go back to diesel or petrol.
This kind of powerful advocacy, combined with an increasing awareness of the massive running cost savings electric car drivers experience, is why our Nissan LEAF sales continue to grow.
Sadly, for Nissan, their sales success with the LEAF is still just 4000 sales in the UK in a 2014 market that saw 2,476,435 cars sold. Still, that’s almost as many SMART cars as Mercedes sold.
