Takata airbags: Toyota, Nissan, Honda & Daihatsu recall ANOTHER 11.5 million cars worldwide

The Takata airbags saga continues to rumble on, with Toyota, Nissan, Honda and Daihatsu confirming a further 11.5 million recalls worldwide.

The Takata airbags saga has been rumbling on since 2008, when it was first revealed that faulty airbag inflators had caused a handful of accidents and injuries in Honda cars.

Since then, more than 20 million cars using Takata inflators have been recalled – mainly cars made by the Japanese big three, Toyota, Honda and Nissan – and now we have another raft of recalls, some of which affect UK car owners, which will take the total well over 30 million.

Toyota and Nissan were first to reveal a new wave of recalls, with Toyota saying close to five million Toyotas were being checked, including 1.2 million in Europe and approaching 200,000 in the UK, with affected models built between 2003 and 2007 including Corolla, Yaris, Avensis, Verso, Picnic, RAV4 and Hilux.

Nissan’s recall is smaller, with around 1.56 million cars affected worldwide, and Honda and Daihatsu have also issued recalls for almost five million more cars.

So far, Toyota has confirmed it will be contacting UK owners affected during the next six weeks, and are planning to replace the faulty part which, it is claimed, was not properly sealed, can let in moisture and could, ultimately, burst under pressure spraying shrapnel in to the car.
