Toyota Yaris Hybrid range extended with new Sport & Active models

Toyota is expanding the appeal of the Yaris Hybrid by introducing two new model choices – Active and Sport – to add to the existing Icon and Excel models.

When hybrid cars first started hitting the market, car makers marketed them as unique, standalone models – like the Toyota Prius – so buyers could shout their ‘green-ness’ as they took to the road.

But as hybrids become mainstream, car makers have sensibly realised that very few want to shout that they’re driving a ‘green’ car, and see the choice of a hybrid as just another option box to tick when they place an order.

So car makers have been adding hybrid options to their regular model range, and Toyota are now taking that a step further by extending the Yaris Hybrid range to a full four model range with the arrival of Active and Sport versions to add to the current Icon and Excel models.

The Yaris Hybrid Active becomes the new entry-level model – complete with Climate, electric front windows and split-folding back seats – and at £14,995 it’s nearly £500 cheaper than the current Icon (although that includes a £300 introductory discount).

At the other end of the Yaris Hybrid range sits the new Sport model, which offers hybrid drivers 16″ alloys, back spoiler, Climate, all-round electric windows, Toyota Touch 2 Multimedia, Bluetooth, rear-view camera and the option of a glass panoramic roof. Costing from £16,695, the Yaris Hybrid Sport is around £500 more than the Excel model.

Both the Toyota Yaris Hybrid Active and Sport are now available to order from Toyota’s UK dealers.
