Fiat Tipo will arrive as an affordable compact hatch and estate for the UK
Fiat has revealed the new Tipo, which will arrive in Europe as a compact saloon but spawn a hatchback and estate version which will be sold in the UK
The success of the Dacia range of budget cars in Europe seems to have inspired the new Fiat Tipo, with Fiat aiming to offer the Tipo as a budget compact saloon, hatchback and estate in Europe – although the UK will only get the hatch and estate versions of the Tipo.Based on the Aegea saloon – revealed earlier this year in Turkey – the new Ford Focus / VW Golf sized Tipo is 4.5m long and 1.78m wide with a decent sized boot and room for five and will be powered by a choice of two MultiJet II turbo diesels and two petrol engines, with power outputs from 94-118bhp and a choice of manual or automatic gearboxes.
Despite ‘budget’ pretensions – some reports suggest the Tip could start from as little as £10k – it will come with Fiat’s Uconnect system complete with 5″ colour screen, Bluetooth, USB and the option of TomTom Sat Nav and rear view camera.
Fiat are planning to debut the hatchback and estate versions of the new Tipo at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, so it should arrive in Fiat’s UK showrooms later next year.
