The BMW iX4 arrives as the flashier take on the Neue Klasse BMW iX3, with prices from £60,170 and range of up to 514 miles.
It’s been almost exactly a year since the first of BMW’s Neue Klasse models arrived with the new iX3, and since then we’ve had plenty of ‘Neue Klasse’ models and makeovers, from a Neue Klasse makeover for the ICE BMW 3 Series to the same for the BMW 7 Series. Now, because there’s a Neue Klasse iX3, it’s inevitable we get its ‘SAV’ sibling in the shape of the new BMW iX4, complete with a sloping coupe roof and higher prices.
The iX4 is exactly the same as the iX3 from the front, with the only visual changes going on relegated to the back end, with a coupe roofline and small tailgate spoiler, and an interior pretty much unchanged from the iX3.
Under the skin, all is much the same as the iX3 too – although BMW isn’t bothering with an entry-level RWD iX4 model – with the range kicking off with iX4 40 xDrive with an 87kWh battery, 0- 62 mph in 5.6 seconds and range of 396 miles.
Next up is the ‘range king’ of the iX4 offerings, with the iX4 50 xDrive bosaating a 113kWh battery and 462bhp, 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds and range of 514 miles.
Also on offer is the iX4 M60, which gets the same 113kWh battery as the 50 model, but a more powerful 604 bhp, enough for 0- 62 mph in 3.9 seconds, despite which the range is only slightly impacted, with 483 miles promised.
BMW’s Mike Reichelt said:
With the new fully electric BMW iX4, we are expanding the Neue Klasse portfolio with a particularly emotional vehicle. Its striking proportions, elegant coupé silhouette and Neue Klasse technologies combine to create a truly distinctive character. Blending sportiness, expressive design and innovative technology, the BMW iX4 sets a bold new accent within our fully electric BMW portfolio.
Now on sale, the iX4 40 xDrive costs from £60,170 and the iX4 50 from £66,075 (no prices yet for the M60 xDrive), with first customer deliveries due in March 2027.
